Ducks send Hnidy to Boston; acquire Brandon Bochenski

Brian Burke wasted no time in making a move after the NHL trade freeze, sending depth defenseman Shane Hnidy over to Boston along with a sixth-round draft pick for forward Brandon Bochenski.

Bochenski, once a promising Ottawa prospect, has seen his stock fallen after a solid year with the Bruins last season. Playing in 20 games this year, Bochenski has just six assists and has been finding himself in the press box more often than not. While not physical or large in size, Bochenski does have true offensive instincts which may find their way onto one of the Ducks top two lines.

The move also frees more “tag room” as Bochenski’s contract expires this season while Hnidy was signed an extra year. This move may simply have been in an effort to clear enough room to extend Corey Perry.
