Scott Niedermayer confirms return
Category: News
It’s news Ducks’ fans have been waiting all season for. In a press-conference called before the game against Buffalo last night, Brian Burke announced that Conn Smythe winner Scott Niedermayer will return to the Anaheim line-up this season.
Niedermayer had been contemplating retirement after winning his fourth Cup alongside brother Rob last season. He has been under suspension for failing to report to training camp, as Burke has given Scott time to think over his future. Teemu Selanne, who is in a similar situation, has not made any announcements yet. Selanne however is not currently under any NHL contract.
“I’m excited to be rejoining my teammates and getting back on the ice,” said Niedermayer. “I would like to thank the Samuelis, Brian Burke and especially my teammates for their patience while I wrestled with this very difficult decision.”
Burke expects Niedermayer may suit up as early as next week, but will not rush him until he is in game shape. Being a fitness fanatic and the fact Scott has been skating with ex-Ducks Travis Green and Jeff Friesen lately should mean there isn’t a lot of rust left to brush off.
