Coyotes take shootout; beat Ducks 2-1

Posted by Varius @ 11:49 PM, Sunday Sep 16th, 2007

Radim Vrbata tied the game in the second period and the teams went to an eventual shootout, something Ducks fans are familiar with losing (see: last season). Vrbata had the clinching shootout goal to end the contest with a Phoenix victory.

Chris Kunitz opened the scoring in the first period for the Ducks and that remained their lone regulation goal. Todd Bertuzzi, looking solid, had the lone goal for Anaheim in the shootout. Jonas Hiller took over from youngster Gerald Coleman halfway through the game and both ‘tenders fared well. David Aebischer weathered a Ducks’ storm in the first period or the game wouldn’t have been as close.

Peter Mueller had the first goal of the shootout for Phoenix. Anaheim’s exhibition record dropped to 1-1-1 with the shootout loss.
